Perambulations on the Way to an Architecture for a Nice Argument Generator

We introduce the architecture and organizational principles of a system capable of analyzing and composing arguments that are persuasive for particular interlocutors. The main components of this system are an Argument Generator, Analyzer and Strategist. The Generator produces arguments that aim to convince a user of the correctness of a goal proposition. Since the generated arguments are tailored to some particular user, a revisable user model is maintained by the system. The Analyzer assesses the user’s and the system’s arguments, and pinpoints errors and weaknesses in them. Finally, the Strategist controls the overall operation of the Generator and the Analyzer.
